Jaimye Murphy, a talented dancer, model and actress is a triple threat and the one to look out for.Her grind and hustle is like none other with pulling all-nighters on bus trips from Philly to NYC.  Her resume highlights her work on shows like Law and Order, The Good Wife and Gotham to name a few. No matter the time of day, rain or shine, Jaimye will be there on the next bus to her audition or call time. Murphy, now 27 has started her humble beginnings at the age of 6 by taking dance and acting classes. Her first role was in an elementary school play as a pilgrim and her first TV role was on an HBO Original series called How to Make it in America. Jaimye attended Temple University, Marymount Mahattan University and a performing arts boarding school in California where she majored in dance. She gives credit to her late mother, who passed away when she was 21, for giving her the talent that she has but gives credit to her father for her determination, intelligence and wit. Since the passing of her mother, her father has been acting as both parents and became a great support system along with other family. Currently, Murphy is not with an agency and act as a freelance actress and model which can be challenging at times since she has to keep up with her own schedule and bookings.  With God being prominent in her life she believes that He, the universe and her mother are all working together creating blessings and opportunities for her. She believes that this is her calling and the path that she is destined to be on.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? I see myself in a couple of featured films and on TV shows having principal roles. I see myself moving to NYC and owning businesses, like a dance studio and a jewelry company.

Who or what inspires you? I am a very observant and creative person so I draw inspiration from everything. I get inspiration from walking around and looking up at the sky to going to different shows and meeting people on set.

Do you have a full –time job?  Acting is my full-time job. That is how I survive. I sacrificed being in a cubicle and feeling like I was in a jail cell to do my passion full-time.

How do you manage everything that you are doing? Managing my job is very hard because I live in Philly and I work in NYC. I am in NYC about 3 to 4x a week and I also have a so I have dog so I have lots of babysiitters.

Is this the only thing that you are focused on? Besides acting I also model, dance, paint, draw and make jewelry. Within my jewelry company I also make flower headbands for concerts like Coachella.

What actors do you admire? I admire a lot of old school comedic actors and the list is too long to go through. I drew inspiration from watching TV with my parents.

What was the highest paying gig to date? And what was it for? My highest paying gig was actually for a Newport cigarette ad. I didn't have to smoke in the shooting of the ad. It was very easy and I was surprised at how much we got paid. It was fun.

How hard is it to get into this industry? It's not hard to get into the industry it's just hard to maintain being in the industry. Anyone can act, it's just the struggle and the challenge that people usually give up on. That is what separates the people who make it and the people who ends up back in the office.

How many acting gigs did you take part in last year? Explain your grind. I only did a few gigs last year because I really just started taking it serious this year. I've done well so far by being seen in Gotham, Vinyl, The Good Wife, Law & Order, Luke Cage and The Get-Down which are both Netflix series, a crime reenactment show and Dr. Phil's autobiography.

What would be your message to the young inspiring actors that are trying to break into this industry? My advice to anyone trying to break into the industry is definitely just go for it. It's not something you can half-ass. Make sure that this is something that you want to do because it is going to be challenging and it is going to be probably one of the hardest things you're going to have to do in your life. But at the same time it is going to be so rewarding because it is your passion. And it has to be your passion to want to make this sacrifice and grind.
