Maurice Jackson, 28 born August 19, 1988 always knew he was good at art but didn’t accept it fully until the age of 23. Maurice starting drawing at the age of 6. He would copy sketches his father would do on loose paper that was laying around on the table, and he has been drawing ever since then. Jackson, takes pride that he attended the Creative and Performing Arts high school in Philadelphia, PA where he grew up. He gives credit to finding his passion for art there. Maurice, serves God proudly and expresses his love for God throughout his work. His ideas are influenced by his dreams and whatever visions God gives him. He knew that painting was his calling and gift to the world when he did a live painting at his church. The impact that it made confirmed that art was what he was made to do.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Being a full-time artist, married and business owner

What is your inspiration for the pieces you’ve created? Everything

What makes your paintings different from other artist’s work? My ideas are influenced by my dreams and whatever visions God gives me. Ever artist style is different, so no painting is truly the same.

Do you have a full –time job?   Yes

How do you manage everything that you are doing? Just staying focused and patient

Is this the only thing that you are focused on? If not, what else are you doing? Art and marrying my girlfriend are my main focus.

Where/who do you think you get your talent from? Probably my dad

Who have you painted for? Myself, family, friends and anyone who enjoys my work.

Do you sell your work? If so, what are your prices? Yes. My prices vary on size of the work. But I also enjoy doing things for free just to be a blessing to others.

What type of paint do you use? I use mostly acrylic

Do you teach painting classes? I am currently doing paint parties and it has been a wonderful experience.

Could you explain the many ways you can make money with art? There’s a few ways really. You can be a teacher, do commissioned work for others or architecture drawings. The list can go on and on.

What would be your message to the young entrepreneurs out there that wants to go into the art industry? Just focus. Patience is key. Whatever your style is you should perfect it and build your brand off of that. There is beauty in being original.
